200 Members Join NTPC Bongaigaon’s Campaign For A Tobacco-Free Future
The students of Class IX and X at Notre Dame Academy School participated in a special awareness session

In alignment with its commitment to promoting health and wellness among its workforce, NTPC Bongaigaon observed World No-Tobacco Day on 31st May 2025 through a series of sensitization and awareness activities across its premises.

The day commenced with a pledge-taking ceremony led by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, at the New Administrative Building. Coordinated by the Medical Cell, NTPC Bongaigaon employees and associate staff assembled in large numbers to take the pledge against tobacco use, reinforcing their commitment to a healthier lifestyle. A signature campaign was also conducted on the spot, where employees expressed their support by signing their names in solidarity with the cause.

Simultaneously, at the New Service Building, a parallel event was organized where Debabrata Kar, GM (O&M), administered the pledge to another group of employees and associate staff. This event also featured a signature campaign, further emphasizing the station’s collective stance against tobacco consumption.

The students of Class IX and X at Notre Dame Academy School participated in a special awareness session. Dr. Deepayan Paul and his team, from the Medical Department, delivered a compelling talk on the ill effects of tobacco, educating the youth on the risks and long-term consequences of tobacco use. The session concluded with the students taking a pledge to remain tobacco-free.

Later in the day, an awareness session was held for CISF personnel at the CISF colony premises. Dr. Wasim from Assam Cancer Care Foundation, along with his team, conducted an informative session on tobacco-induced diseases and early prevention strategies. The session also included a pledge-taking ceremony by CISF staff, demonstrating their support toward the anti-tobacco campaign.

Additionally, medical staff and workers at the NTPC hospital premises reaffirmed their stand against tobacco use by participating in the awareness activities organized by the Medical Department. In total, more than 200 individuals benefited from the day-long program, which successfully reinforced the importance of staying away from tobacco for a healthier and more productive life. The initiative by NTPC Bongaigaon highlights its proactive approach to employee welfare and its ongoing efforts to create a tobacco-free workplace and community.
