Maharaj also inaugurated the "Incredible India" stall set up at Bharat Mandapam
In the three-day World Tourism Market (WTM) starting at Excel London, officials of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India as well as Uttarakhand Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj also participated.
Uttarakhand has made its presence felt in the presence of the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India as well as the state’s Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj at the three-day World Tourism Market (WTM) that began in London on Thursday. During this, Maharaj also inaugurated the “Incredible India” stall set up at Bharat Mandapam in the presence of India’s High Commissioner to London, Vikram Kumar Doraiswami and Director General of the Union Ministry of Tourism, Mugdha Sinha. Many stalls showcasing the culture and tourism of many states of the country including Uttarakhand were the center of attraction for the people at Bharat Mandapam.
Speaking on the occasion, Uttarakhand State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said that the UK is the second largest source market for inbound tourists to India. With a large expatriate population of around 1.9 million, the UK has the largest Indian diaspora. A delegation of around 50 stakeholders including state governments, inbound tour operators, airlines, hoteliers of the Indian tourism industry is participating in the World Tourism Market, London to showcase India’s vibrant cultural diversity, tourism products and immersive experiences. This initiative is in line with India’s strategic goal to promote inbound tourism and establish the country as a leading global tourist destination.
Maharaj said that apart from the Union Ministry of Tourism, several other stakeholders including State Tourism Departments, Tour Operators, Airlines, PSUs etc. are participating in the India Pavilion at WTM. Besides, co-participants include Uttarakhand, Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir, Puducherry, Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu, Tour Operators & Destination Management Companies, Airlines, Resorts and IRCTC. State Tourism Departments of Goa, Odisha, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh are also participating in this global tourism market to showcase their unique tourism experiences and connect with potential customers and partners.
State Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had launched the ‘Chalo India’ initiative to involve Indian diaspora in promoting India among their non-Indian friends.
