Pushkar to be developed on the lines of Kashi-Vishwanath and Ayodhya
The historic Pushkar Fair 2024 concluded on Friday, coinciding with Kartik Purnima, in a grand ceremony. Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister, Diya Kumari, participated in religious rituals and the grand Aarti, marking the end of the fair. Earlier, the closing ceremony was held at the Pushkar mela Ground.
During the closing event, Diya Kumari announced key plans for Pushkar’s development. She stated that the Central and Rajasthan governments will collaborate to develop Pushkar on the lines of Kashi-Vishwanath and Ayodhya. She emphasized that Pushkar is not just a place of faith for Rajasthan but for the entire country. The development plan for Pushkar is ready and will be implemented soon. Diya Kumari reiterated that the development will integrate modern facilities while preserving the region’s rich cultural and spiritual heritage.
She highlighted that the beautification of Pushkar Lake and its surrounding ghats, along with the development of better facilities for religious tourists and visitors, are part of the government’s plans. Additionally, efforts to promote tourism and cultural events will be intensified.
This year’s Pushkar Fair witnessed a record number of domestic and international visitors, with over 600,000 Indian pilgrims and 20,000 foreign tourists attending the seven-day event. Diya Kumari noted, “This is the highest number of visitors since 2019, which shows the growing significance of Pushkar and the success of our tourism policies.
Pushkar Animal Fair Boosts Rural Economy
Pushkar’s animal fair is globally renowned, with over 8,000 livestock brought for sale this year. Diya Kumari called it a positive development, noting that the fair not only provides economic opportunities for rural farmers but also highlights the importance of Rajasthan’s livestock and traditions.
Pushkar – A Fusion of Faith and Tourism
Pushkar is not only a major pilgrimage site for Hindus but also one of Rajasthan’s key tourist destinations. The Brahma Temple, Pushkar Lake, and its religious ceremonies attract millions of visitors each year. Diya Kumari stated that there is a need to blend Pushkar’s traditions with modern amenities, ensuring it becomes one of India’s premier religious and cultural destinations.

The Rajasthan government has devised a comprehensive plan for Pushkar’s development, which will be executed in collaboration with the Central government. Diya Kumari emphasized that the goal is not only to enhance religious tourism but also to improve the quality of life for local residents.

This year, Pushkar’s fairground attracted both domestic and international visitors with its grandeur and cultural appeal. Decorated camels, traditional camel carts, and men flaunting their turbans and mustaches captured everyone’s attention. Traditional events like tug-of-war and pot races kept the crowds entertained. Foreign tourists, too, captured the vibrant traditions and colorful scenes, preserving memories through their cameras.
