Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Conducts High-Level Review Of Vigilance Department, Directs Strict Action Against Corruption

CM urged stringent monitoring of key departments such as Revenue, Police, Engineering, Education, Health, Anganwadi, Mining and Transport

Chief Minister of Bihar, Nitish Kumar conducted a high-level review of the Vigilance Department at ‘Sankalp’, 1 Anne Marg. The meeting focused on evaluating the performance of the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Special Vigilance Unit, Technical Examiner Cell, and the Economic Offences Unit.

During the review, Additional Chief Secretary (Home Department) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary presented a comprehensive overview of the department’s structure, objectives, and functions. He emphasized the government’s commitment to building a corruption-free administration through an efficient, dynamic, and responsive system.

Director General of Vigilance Investigation Bureau, J.S. Gangwar, shared detailed insights into the status of ongoing investigations and actions taken. Pankaj Darad, ADGP of the Special Vigilance Unit, highlighted the unit’s establishment in 2006 and its role in strengthening anti-corruption mechanisms. Nayyar Hasnain Khan, ADGP of the Economic Offences Unit, noted the unit’s focus on tackling economic and cybercrimes since its formation in 2011. Engineer-in-Chief Ravi Kumar discussed the role of the Technical Examiner Cell in probing technically complex corruption cases and supporting both vigilance units.

The Chief Minister reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards corruption and stressed that public administration must operate in a transparent and accountable manner. He directed that all registered cases be investigated swiftly and resolved promptly. Emphasis was laid on strengthening internal monitoring from top to bottom across departments.

CM called for public awareness initiatives to encourage complaint registration via control rooms and toll-free numbers, ensuring quick action without inconvenience to complainants. He urged stringent monitoring of key departments such as Revenue, Police, Engineering, Education, Health, Anganwadi, Mining, and Transport.

He instructed District Magistrates to conduct regular reviews, ensure rapid action on irregularities, and carry out surprise inspections of welfare schemes including MNREGA. Any lapses must be met with immediate investigation and strict action.

Reaffirming his stance, the Chief Minister declared that corruption in any form will not be tolerated and called upon all officials to perform their duties with integrity and commitment.

The review was attended by Principal Secretary to the CM Deepak Kumar, Secretary to CM Anupam Kumar and Kumar Ravi, along with senior officials from the Vigilance Bureau, Special Vigilance Unit, Economic Offences Unit, and Technical Examiner Cell.
