SECL Targets to Clear Over 37 Lakh Sq. Ft. Area Under Special Campaign 5.0

CIL Subsidiary Focuses on Waste Management, Scrap Disposal, and Digital File Review

South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a Miniratna subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has embarked on Special Campaign 5.0 with an ambitious target to enhance cleanliness, efficiency, and waste management across its operational and administrative locations.

Under this drive, SECL aims to clean and rejuvenate over 37.5 lakh sq. ft. of space spread across 203 identified sites in Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, focusing on Swachhata (cleanliness) and Efficiency in Governance.

Major Objectives of Special Campaign 5.0

  • Cleanliness and upkeep across 203 sites covering around 37.5 lakh sq. ft.
  • Safe disposal of approximately 3,000 metric tonnes of scrap material
  • Review of 2,000 physical files and 6,500 e-files
  • Closure of 2,700 e-files after verification
  • Promotion of “Best out of Waste” artworks to encourage creativity and sustainability

The campaign underscores digital transformation within SECL by integrating systematic file reviews, e-file closures, and efficient asset management, reflecting a move toward paperless governance.

Last year, under Special Campaign 4.0, SECL surpassed all targets, emerging as the top-performing coal PSU in the number of sites cleaned, total space freed, and volume of scrap disposed. The company also led in public outreach and visibility, recording the highest number of social media posts and press releases among all Coal India subsidiaries — setting a national benchmark in campaign execution and communication.

Through Special Campaign 5.0, SECL reaffirms its commitment to environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and cleaner workspaces—in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission and the Coal India Group’s vision for responsible mining.
