ACC Confirms B. Sairam as the next CMD of Coal India Limited

The PESB had recommended his name for the top post on September 20

Ending months of speculation, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of B. Sairam, currently Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), as the next Chairman of Coal India Limited (CIL).

Earlier, on September 20, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) had recommended Sairam’s name for the top post at Coal India, India’s largest coal producer. The ACC’s approval now formally clears his elevation to the coveted position.

The development comes as the tenure of the incumbent CMD, P.M. Prasad, is set to conclude upon his superannuation on October 31, 2025. In the interim, the government had assigned Sanoj Kumar Jha, a 1997-batch IAS officer and presently Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Coal, the additional charge of Chairman and Managing Director, Coal India Limited, for a period of three months with effect from November 1, 2025.

With the ACC’s decision, the suspense surrounding leadership at Coal India Limited has finally come to an end. The official order issued by the ACC is reproduced below for the perusal of readers of www.indianpsu.com
