Adequate Petrol, Diesel Stocks Across India; Govt Urges Public Not to Panic
All retail outlets are operating normally and there is no shortage of fuel anywhere in the country

Amid the evolving geopolitical situation in West Asia and the continued closure of the Strait of Hormuz, the Government of India has assured that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available at all fuel stations across the country, urging citizens not to fall prey to rumours or panic buying.
According to an official update released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), all retail outlets are operating normally, and there is no shortage of fuel anywhere in the country. Instances of panic buying in certain regions were attributed to misinformation, which led to temporary crowding at petrol pumps.
The government has taken multiple proactive steps to maintain energy security. All refineries are operating at high capacity with sufficient crude inventories, while domestic LPG production has been ramped up. Additionally, excise duty on petrol and diesel has been reduced by ₹10 per litre to ease consumer burden.
To ensure domestic availability, the government has also imposed export levies on diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF).
Natural Gas Supply Stable; Priority to Households and Transport
Natural gas supplies remain stable, with 100% allocation to PNG (domestic) and CNG transport sectors. Industrial and commercial users are currently receiving around 80% of their average consumption.
Supply to urea plants is being maintained at 70–75% of their six-month average, with additional LNG and RLNG cargoes being sourced to ensure continuity.
City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies have been directed to prioritise PNG connections for commercial establishments such as hotels, restaurants, and canteens. Notably, over 2.9 lakh new gas connections were added in March across domestic and commercial categories.
LPG Supply Normal; Commercial Allocation Increased
The government confirmed that domestic LPG supply remains normal, with over 55 lakh refills delivered in a single day and no reported dry-outs at distributorships.
To address demand, commercial LPG allocation has been increased to 70% of pre-crisis levels, with priority given to key sectors including hospitality, food processing, and critical industries.
Maritime and Port Operations Unaffected
Despite regional tensions, two LPG carriers carrying about 94,000 MT are safely en route to India, and port operations across the country continue without congestion or disruption.
Government Monitoring Situation; Assistance to Indians Abroad Continues
The government is closely monitoring developments in the Gulf and West Asia, with the safety and welfare of Indian nationals remaining a top priority. Indian missions are actively assisting citizens, including seafarers and students, with visa, consular, and logistical support.
