Atul Gupta takes over as new CMD of Engineers India Limited

Incumbent CMD Vartika Shukla superannuated on February 28, 2026

Atul Gupta has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Engineers India Limited (EIL), a Navratna Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. He succeeds Vartika Shukla, who superannuated on February 28, 2026, after a distinguished tenure leading the organisation.

Prior to his elevation, Gupta was serving as Director (Commercial) at EIL and brings with him decades of leadership experience spanning project execution, commercial operations, contract management, and strategic business development within the company.

Highly competitive selection process

The selection process generated significant interest across the public sector and energy industry, reflecting EIL’s stature as one of India’s premier engineering consultancy organisations. The company plays a critical role in delivering projects across refineries, petrochemicals, pipelines, infrastructure, and emerging energy transition domains in India and overseas markets.

Gupta was chosen from a strong and diverse pool of candidates that included senior executives from leading organisations such as GAIL (India) Limited, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited, and Indian Railways.

Leadership at a transformative phase

Industry observers note that Gupta assumes charge at a pivotal moment when EIL is expanding its strategic focus areas, including:

  • Clean energy and green hydrogen projects
  • Refinery modernisation and upgradation
  • Petrochemical capacity expansion
  • Digital transformation of engineering and consultancy services

His appointment is expected to further strengthen EIL’s position as a global engineering consultancy and reinforce its role as a key partner in India’s evolving energy transition and infrastructure development landscape.

We at www.indianpsu.com wish Mr. Atul Gupta the very best in his new endeavour and challenge.

Notably, the official website of Engineers India Limited, was yet to update the development at the time this report was filed.
