Awareness Programme On Drug Abuse Prevention Organized For Village Defence Parties By NTPC Bongaigaon & Kokrajhar Police

The programme was held with the theme “Towards a Drug-Free India”

Reinforcing the commitment towards creating a safer and healthier society, NTPC Bongaigaon in association with Kokrajhar Police organised an Awareness Programme for Village Defence Parties (VDPs) on Drug Abuse Prevention under the framework of NCORD (National Narcotics Coordination Portal). The programme was held with the theme “Towards a Drug-Free India”, aiming to strengthen the role of grassroots security forces in combating drug-related issues in rural areas.

The session was led by Pushpraj Singh, IPS, Superintendent of Police, Kokrajhar, who underlined the alarming rise of substance abuse and stressed the need for coordinated community action. He urged VDP members to remain vigilant and act as the first line of defence by sharing timely intelligence and building trust within their respective localities. Addressing the participants, Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, reiterated NTPC’s role in nation-building and social responsibility. He mentioned that NTPC Bongaigaon, apart from generating power, is equally committed to generating awareness on social issues. He appreciated the efforts of Kokrajhar Police and assured that NTPC would continue supporting such collaborative initiatives for the well-being of the region.

Earlier, P. Rajkhowa, APS, Additional SP, Kokrajhar, spoke about the efforts being made by Kokrajhar Police under NCORD to dismantle networks involved in the trafficking of narcotics. He lauded the role of VDPs in maintaining village-level security and highlighted how increased awareness can play a crucial role in prevention.

Onkar Nath, Head of HR, NTPC Bongaigaon, emphasized the importance of outreach and behavioural awareness. He shared that preventive education, especially at the grassroots level, is the strongest tool in the fight against drug abuse. He thanked the VDP members and police officials for their dedication and proactive participation.

The event also saw the presence of Ashish Kumar, Deputy Commandant, CISF, along with representatives from various security forces and internal security teams, who pledged their support to spread awareness and work in unison towards a drug-free society.

The programme witnessed active participation from VDP members of the region, officials of HR Department, security personnel from CISF and DGR Security Services making the interaction highly engaging and informative. The initiative reflects NTPC Bongaigaon’s continued focus on building stronger community ties and working jointly with local law enforcement for societal betterment.
