BCCL Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament Inaugurated at Jiyalgora Stadium, Lodna

Teams from all 12 regions of BCCL, comprising officers and employees, are participating in the tournament

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) today inaugurated its Inter-Zonal Cricket Tournament with great enthusiasm at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jiyalgora, Lodna. The event was formally inaugurated by Director (Human Resources), BCCL, Murali Krishna Ramaiah, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Senior officials present included General Manager (Administration) Arpan Ghosh, General Manager (Lodna) A.K. Sinha, Department Head (Welfare) Kiran Rani Nayak, APM (Lodna) D.K. Singh, along with officers and staff from the Lodna Regional Office and Coal Bhawan Headquarters. Players from various BCCL regions and a large number of spectators added to the festive atmosphere.

Two exciting matches were played on the opening day of the tournament.

  • In the first match, Bastakola Region defeated Kusunda Region by 29 runs. Batting first, Bastakola posted 164 runs for 10 wickets in 20 overs. Kusunda, in reply, managed 135 runs for 3 wickets in the allotted overs. Sucha Singh of Bastakola, who scored 45 runs off 31 balls, was adjudged Man of the Match.
  • The second match was played between Headquarters and CV Area, where Headquarters emerged victorious by 4 wickets. CV Area were bowled out for 112 runs in 16.1 overs, while Headquarters chased down the target, scoring 118 runs for 6 wickets in 16.3 overs. Anil Yadav, who scored 40 runs off 22 balls, was named Man of the Match.

Addressing the gathering, Director (HR) Murali Krishna Ramaiah said that sports competitions are an integral part of BCCL’s organizational culture. He emphasized that such tournaments not only provide a platform to showcase sporting talent but also foster team spirit, energy, discipline, and harmony among employees. He encouraged all players to perform to the best of their abilities while maintaining high standards of sportsmanship.

Earlier, Regional GM (Lodna) A.K. Sinha welcomed the Director (HR) with a bouquet. Ramaiah later interacted with the players, match referee, umpires, and organizing committee members. He also held discussions with members of the Coal India Inter-Company Player Selection Committee— Rajib Kumar Ghosh, Siddharth Suman, B.H. Khan, and Bhupendra Kumar Rai—and issued guidelines to ensure a fair and transparent selection of talented players.

The Man of the Match awards were presented at the conclusion of the matches.

This six-day Inter-Regional Cricket Tournament for BCCL employees is being organized by the Lodna Region and will conclude on January 13, 2025. Teams from all 12 regions of BCCL, comprising officers and employees, are participating in the tournament.
