BCCL & DGMS Conclude Mines Safety Fortnight 2025 with Grand Award Ceremony in Dhanbad

In a significant step towards reinforcing a culture of safety in the mining sector, Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), in collaboration with the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), organized the grand award distribution cum closing ceremony of the Annual Mines Safety Fortnight 2025 at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Jialgora, Lodna.
The function witnessed the presence of senior officials from BCCL, DGMS, and other leading organizations from the mining sector. Deputy Director General (DGMS), Murlidhar Bidri, attended as the Chief Guest, while CMD, BCCL, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, presided over the event. Director General, DGMS, Ujjwal Tah, addressed the gathering virtually.

Senior dignitaries including Director (Human Resources) Shri Murali Krishna Ramaiah, Director (Technical-Operations) Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh, Director (Technical-P&P) Shri Niladri Roy, along with representatives from SAIL, Tata Steel, WPDCL, PSPCL, and members of the BCCL Welfare & Safety Board, were also present.
Focus on Safety Culture and Zero Accidents
In his virtual message, Ujjwal Tah emphasized that mine safety must go beyond compliance and become an integral part of workers’ behavior and mindset. He highlighted the importance of adopting modern technologies, continuous training, and robust monitoring systems to achieve the goal of “zero accidents.”

Addressing the gathering, Murlidhar Bidri underlined that safety awareness initiatives like the Mines Safety Fortnight play a crucial role in strengthening responsibility and vigilance among workers. He urged all stakeholders to integrate safety practices into their daily routines.
CMD BCCL, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, reiterated that safety is the cornerstone of mining operations. He stressed the need for technological advancement, disciplined work systems, and collective responsibility to ensure the well-being of every worker.
Exhibition of Safety Innovations and Technologies
The program commenced with the hoisting of the safety flag, followed by the inauguration and inspection of thematic stalls by dignitaries.
Exhibitions showcased cutting-edge innovations and best practices in mining safety, including:
- AI-based PPE compliance systems
- Smart helmet technology
- Highwall and surface mining techniques
- Eco-restoration and sustainable mining models
- Groundwater recycling systems
- Coal bed methane extraction models
- Electrical safety innovations
- Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STP)
- Blasting vibration control techniques
Stalls from all 12 BCCL areas, along with Mines Rescue Station Dhansar and participating organizations such as SAIL, Tata, WPDCL, and PSPCL, drew significant attention.
Cultural Performances and Ceremonial Highlights
The event also celebrated cultural vibrancy, with Santhal folk dance performances adding a local flavour. The formal session began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the presentation of DGMS and Coal India corporate songs.
A minute’s silence was observed to pay tribute to martyred coal workers, and all attendees took a safety oath, reaffirming their commitment to a safe working environment.
A souvenir was also released during the समारोह, marking the occasion.

Conclusion
The function concluded with a vote of thanks by General Manager, Lodna, A.K. Sinha, followed by Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
The Mines Safety Fortnight 2025 not only celebrated achievements but also reinforced the critical importance of safety, innovation, and collective responsibility in India’s mining sector—moving closer to the vision of a zero-accident workplace.
