BCCL Launches Free Health Camp in Gopalichak for Gas-Affected Families in PB Area
Expert doctors deployed; arrangements made for food and accommodation - Relief, rescue and medical support intensified for Kenduaidih gas emission-affected families

The Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) management has intensified relief and rescue operations for families affected by the gas emission incident in the Kenduaidih Rajput Basti of the PB Area. With public safety and health placed at top priority, several comprehensive measures have been rolled out to support the affected citizens.
Free Health Camp Launched in Gopalichak

A free health camp was inaugurated today at the public Durga Mandap premises in PB Area, Gopalichak, exclusively for families impacted by the gas leak. The camp is being run under the supervision of specialist doctors from BCCL Central Hospital and Kustaur Regional Hospital (PB Area), ensuring immediate and high-quality medical assistance.
At the camp, arrangements have been made not only for medical consultation but also for food, beverages, and patient accommodation. A team of senior specialists, including Dr. N.K. Pandey (HoD – Medicine), Dr. Anish Gandhi (HoD – Surgery), and Dr. Monodipa Mandal (Senior Medical Officer, Kustaur Regional Hospital), examined 26 patients on the first day. Free medicines and necessary medical advice were provided to all.

Special Medical Task Force Formed
To ensure continuous healthcare support, BCCL has constituted a Special Medical Task Force comprising expert doctors.
The team—tasked with monitoring, coordination, and emergency response—is led by:
- Dr. Vinita Verma (HoD – Casualty, CHD) – Chairperson
- Dr. Akhil Vajpayee (Deputy CMO, CHD) – Member
- Dr. Kumar Saurav (Deputy MS, CHD) – Member
- Dr. Abhijeet Kumar (AMO, Bhuli) – Member
The task force inspected the Gopalichak camp today and issued guidelines to healthcare workers to strengthen on-ground medical support.
Ambulances, Hospital Readiness and External Specialists
For quick evacuation and first aid, six ambulances have been deployed round the clock in the affected area.
Patients requiring immediate care are being treated at Kustaur Regional Hospital, while provisions have been made at Central Hospital, Jagjivan Nagar for serious cases.
Additionally, BCCL has sought support from leading city specialists. Dr. Soumya Mishra (Pulmonologist, Asharfi Super Speciality Hospital) visited Kustaur Regional Hospital to examine affected patients and provide expert treatment recommendations.
Relief Camps for Displaced Families
Temporary accommodation for about 200 people each has been arranged at Kenduaidih Middle School and Durga Mandir grounds, ensuring safe shelter for displaced families.
Scientific Review for Permanent Resolution
Moving towards a long-term solution, BCCL conducted a high-level technical review meeting today with experts from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, CIMFR, PMRC, CMPDIL, and senior officials including the Director (Technical), Coal India Limited.
Experts from these institutions conducted a full-day field inspection and technical assessment of the Kenduaidih area to chart out a scientific and permanent solution.
CMD Manoj Kumar Agrawal Reviews Operations
BCCL CMD Mr. Manoj Kumar Agrawal is personally monitoring the situation. Yesterday, he undertook an extensive on-foot inspection of the PB Area, interacted with affected families including women and children, and reviewed relief camp arrangements.
Mr. Agrawal also inspected Kustaur Regional Hospital, met patients, and directed officials to ensure zero negligence, maximum preparedness, and all possible support to affected families.
BCCL continues to work round the clock to manage the situation and ensure the safety, rehabilitation, and medical well-being of residents impacted by the Kenduaidih gas leak.
