BCCL Showcases Highwall & Longwall Mining Models at III-2026 Conference at IIT-ISM Dhanbad

BCCL highlights smart mining, critical minerals and green energy for Atmanirbhar Bharat

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) showcased its advanced mining technologies during the Industry–Institute Interaction (III-2026) Conclave and Exhibition, inaugurated on Friday at IIT-ISM Dhanbad. The three-day event, organised as part of the institute’s annual Basantotsav celebrations, is centred on the theme “Smart Mining, Critical Minerals and Green Energy: Need for a Self-Reliant India.”

The conclave was inaugurated by Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, who emphasised the importance of integrating science, technology and culture to strengthen industry–academia collaboration. He said such platforms play a crucial role in nation-building by encouraging innovation and knowledge exchange.

BCCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director Manoj Kumar Agarwal actively participated in the programme. Also present were Prof. Sukumar Mishra, Director, IIT-ISM Dhanbad, A.K. Mishra, Director, SIMFER, along with senior officials, academicians, scientists, industry representatives and students.

A key attraction of the exhibition was BCCL’s stall, which featured working models of highwall mining and monorail-based mining systems. The display highlighted the company’s adoption of modern mining technologies, automation, sustainable mining practices and environmental protection initiatives, drawing significant attention from visitors.

Inspecting the stall, CMD Agarwal appreciated the efforts of the BCCL team and said such platforms not only showcase technical capabilities but also help introduce young minds and researchers to real-world industrial challenges. He noted that BCCL’s responsibilities have expanded following the Government of India’s notification of coking coal as a critical and strategic mineral.

“BCCL plays a vital role in meeting the requirements of the country’s steel sector. Keeping future challenges in mind, we are prioritising smart mining, cutting-edge technologies, automation and environmentally responsible mining practices. Our objective is not just higher production, but safe, sustainable and responsible mining to support India’s energy and industrial needs,” he said.

The III-2026 conclave is emerging as a significant platform for dialogue on smart mining, critical minerals and green energy, featuring technical sessions, panel discussions and exhibitions aimed at strengthening collaboration between industry and academia.
