Bihar Environment Minister Emphasizes Public Participation For Environmental Protection

It must become a people’s movement only then can we truly achieve the vision of a ‘Green Bihar’, Dr. Sunil Kumar

Bihar’s Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Dr. Sunil Kumar is taking proactive steps to strengthen environmental protection efforts in the state. On Saturday, he chaired a high-level review meeting with departmental officials, focusing on ongoing environmental schemes, park management, plantation drives, and climate-related projects.

During the meeting, the minister instructed officials to ensure the timely, transparent, and quality implementation of all environmental schemes. “Effective implementation of departmental initiatives is crucial for maintaining environmental balance,” he said.

A key focus of the meeting was on accelerating the plantation campaign. Dr. Kumar directed officials to treat it as a top priority and transform it into a mass movement through active public participation. “Laxity in making Bihar green will not be tolerated,” he asserted.

The minister also reviewed the condition of major parks across the state, seeking updates and issuing directives for their regular maintenance, care, and beautification.

In addition, schemes addressing climate change mitigation and forest area expansion were reviewed. Dr. Kumar reiterated the state government’s commitment to sustainable development and called for greater involvement of citizens in environmental conservation efforts.

“Environmental protection should not be limited to government programs. It must become a people’s movement,” he emphasized. “Only then can we truly achieve the vision of a ‘Green Bihar’.”
