Blue Collared Workers In Tamil Nadu See Enhanced Job Prospects With Gupshup’s WhatsApp chatbot

To initiate the chatbot, jobseekers can call 044 2525 2626 from their mobile phone and give their WhatsApp number on the IVRS

Over 1000 job seekers connected with potential employers in just a month – a remarkable achievement by a WhatsApp Chatbot built for Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation’s (TNSDC) and administered by Gupshup. Launched just two months ago, the chatbot attracts over hundreds of jobseekers exploring job opportunities.

Ms. Innocent Divya, IAS, Managing Director at TNSDC said “In continuation with TNSDC’s Naan Mudhalvan’s successful path, this new program named Ilayathalam is being initiated for the youth of Tamil Nadu seeking employment and skill development through Ilaya Chatbot powered with artificial intelligence” at the launch of Ilaya – Chatbot.

“The idea of a WhatsApp chatbot was born with an intent to connect technically skilled and unskilled individuals in the state looking for job opportunities that may not be advertised on traditional platforms. TNSDC’s aim was to establish a system that is easily accessible and user-friendly, allowing for efficient communication between job seekers and placement partners across the state. It is also a first of this kind initiative in India by a state government” said Mr. Sai Reddy, Chief Mentor & Director, TNASDC-BFSI.

To initiate the chatbot, jobseekers can call 044 2525 2626 from their mobile phone and give their WhatsApp number on the IVRS. They can register their details through a series of interactions with the chatbot. The chatbot then provides the link to a HTML page that displays the available jobs posted by placement partners matching the skills, experience and other criteria as given by the candidate. Further, candidates who are able to successfully find a job are tracked for follow-ups and support by Ilayathalam, a Support Center that works under TNSDC.

The chatbot named Ilaya helps job seekers connect with recruiters across sectors such as – Electronics, Telecom, Automotive, BFSI, Logistics, Power, Food & Beverage, Retail, etc. and is conversant in both English and Tamil.

“Our WhatsApp chatbot initiative bridges the gap for job seekers and employers. Tailored for those who may not be tech-savvy, we connect a pool of unemployed individuals with jobs not widely advertised on traditional portals”, said Mr. Sai Prasad, Consultant, TNASDC-BFSI.

The agency plans to create awareness about this new employment facilitation measure by reaching out to the job seekers in the state.

By harnessing the power of technology to link aspiring youth with industry demand, TNSDC’s WhatsApp chatbot promises to fuel the aspirations of Tamil Nadu’s job seekers.

“The phenomenal success witnessed by TNSDC brings to the fore, the power of Conversational engagement in uplifting lives when used correctly. In fact, TNSDC’s visionary approach in supporting the state’s burgeoning blue-collared workforce with meaningful employment using technologies such as WhatsApp is commendable. We are excited to work with them in facilitating more job opportunities for the youth of Tamil Nadu, and in helping solve a major challenge of our times”, said Vikas Goel, Senior Director, Government vertical at Gupshup.
