BPCL Inaugurates 71 MWp Solar Plant at Prayagraj During India Energy Week 2026

Project inaugurated by Hardeep Singh Puri at IEW 2026 marks major milestone in BPCL’s renewable energy roadmap

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has commissioned a 71 MWp DC / 52 MW AC solar power plant at Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, marking a significant step in its renewable energy journey. The project was inaugurated today by Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, on the sidelines of India Energy Week (IEW) 2026.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sanjay Khanna, Director (Refineries) with Additional Charge of Chairman & Managing Director, BPCL; Subhankar Sen, Director (Marketing); and D. D. Sarkar, Chief General Manager (Renewable Energy), along with senior officials of the company.

Spread across 210 acres, the solar facility comprises approximately 1.29 lakh solar modules, supported by 1,324 metric tonnes of structural steel and 294 kilometres of cabling. The plant is connected to the power grid through a 132 kV transmission line.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to generate 103.61 million units of green electricity annually, which will be supplied to BPCL’s refineries in Mumbai, Bina, and Kochi. The plant is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 75,150 metric tonnes per year, equivalent to planting nearly 1.25 crore trees.

The commissioning of the Prayagraj solar plant underscores BPCL’s commitment to clean energy and sustainability, reinforcing the company’s role in India’s transition toward greener power solutions and supporting the national goal of achieving a low-carbon energy future.
