BSNL Activates Network-Level Anti-Spam for Mobile Users — Blocking Malicious Links in SMS Before Delivery
“Safe, secure, and always connected” experience for BSNL customers

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) today announced the nationwide rollout of its network-side Anti-Spam and Anti-Smishing protection for mobile customers. This advanced security layer works automatically — no app to install, no settings to configure — to detect and block suspicious and phishing URLs in SMS in real time, before they reach the user’s handset.
Legitimate OTPs, banking alerts, and government messages continue to be delivered as per TRAI’s DLT/UCC framework, ensuring uninterrupted access to essential communication. The technology was first previewed during India Mobile Congress 2024 and is now being progressively extended across BSNL circles as part of ongoing network upgrades.
Developed in partnership with leading India-based cloud communications platform Tanla, the system uses AI/ML, Natural Language Processing (NLP), reputation intelligence, and link expansion to analyse and score messages at line rate. It works in tandem with the industry’s blockchain-based DLT stack already adopted by Indian telecom operators to curb unsolicited commercial communication.
The solution — recognized for 99%+ efficacy against smishing — operates at national scale, with deep ecosystem integrations with major web and messaging platforms to rapidly shut down new scam campaigns.
Key Highlights of BSNL’s No-Spam Solution:
- Detects over 1.5 million scams daily
- Identifies 35,000+ unique fraudulent links and 60,000 scam WhatsApp/mobile numbers every month
- Powered by four proprietary AI/ML engines, NLP, and deep learning technologies
- For BSNL customers, this means malicious-link SMS are automatically blocked at delivery, materially reducing the risk of credential theft and payment fraud.
Availability:
- Protection is on by default for all BSNL mobile subscribers in live circles.
