Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan Appointed CMD of POWERGRID; Dr. R.K. Tyagi Retires

Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) has announced the appointment of Burra Vamsi Rama Mohan as its new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD), effective April 1, 2026.
He succeeds Dr. Ravindra Kumar Tyagi, who demitted office upon his superannuation on March 31, 2026, after a distinguished tenure at the helm of the Maharatna PSU.
Tenure and Appointment
The appointment of Vamsi Rama Mohan was approved by the Board of Directors following an order issued by the Ministry of Power on March 18, 2026.
He has assumed charge with immediate effect and will serve as CMD until July 31, 2030, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
Prior to this elevation, he was serving as Director (Projects) at POWERGRID.
Over Three Decades of Experience
An engineering graduate with advanced qualifications in planning, project management, and management, Vamsi Rama Mohan brings over 33 years of rich experience in the power transmission and telecom sectors.
During his long association with POWERGRID, he has held several key leadership roles spanning:
- Project execution and procurement
- Commercial and regulatory functions
- Asset management and telecom operations
He was also a founding member of POWERGRID’s Regulatory Cell, contributing significantly to shaping the company’s regulatory strategy. Notably, he played a pivotal role in the company’s entry into competitive bidding in the transmission sector.
Driving Telecom and Digital Expansion
Vamsi Rama Mohan has also made notable contributions beyond core transmission.
As CEO of Powergrid Teleservices Limited, he spearheaded the expansion of the telecom business and initiated the company’s first data centre project, marking POWERGRID’s foray into digital infrastructure.
During his tenure as Director (Projects), the company achieved record capitalisation and CAPEX milestones, reinforcing its leadership in India’s power transmission landscape.
