CCL Celebrates World Environment Day With Grand Program And Green Commitments

On the occasion of World Environment Day, Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) organized a grand program at the Sangam Auditorium, Gangotri Convention Centre, CCL Headquarters. The event began with the Coal India Limited corporate song and lighting of ceremonial lamps, setting the tone for a day dedicated to environmental awareness and action.

Dignitaries including CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh, Director (Technical/Operations) Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) Shri Pankaj Kumar, general managers, officers, and employees were present in large numbers. Guests were welcomed with live plants, symbolizing the spirit of the day.

CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh administered the Environmental Pledge to all attendees. A special message from CIL Chairman Shri P.M. Prasad emphasizing the importance of environmental stewardship was also read out during the program.

In his keynote address, Nilendu Kumar Singh stated, “Environmental protection is not just an obligation, but a collective responsibility towards future generations. CCL is committed to ensuring a greener future at every level.” He highlighted CCL’s ongoing efforts to minimize pollution and noted that Coal India Limited is extensively promoting solar energy.

Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, Director (Technical/Operations), shared that over 1 crore saplings have been planted by CCL till date. Massive afforestation drives and campaigns like “Mission Green Coal Region” and “Dust Suppression System” have contributed significantly to improving air and water quality.

CVO Pankaj Kumar, in his motivational address, emphasized that small actions like saving electricity and water can collectively make a big impact. He stressed the importance of environmental education among children to nurture future eco-conscious citizens.

Key Environmental Achievements of CCL (FY 2024–25):

  • 245 hectares of land afforested — half of the annual target.
  • 41 PM-10 analyzers installed for air pollution monitoring.
  • 1.25 MWp and 2.05 MWp rooftop solar systems installed in FY 2023–24 and 2024–25 respectively.
  • 2 MW rooftop solar target set for FY 2025–26 under PM Surya Ghar Yojana.
  • 287.95 lakh units of solar energy generated in FY 2024–25, reducing 23,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.
  • 20 MW solar plant in Piparwar and 4 MW plant in Giridih operational.
  • 104 sedimentation ponds and 34 oil and grease traps constructed for water protection.
  • 174 lakh kilolitres of surplus mine water utilized in 140 villages, benefiting over 2 lakh people.

Release of ‘Nature’s Voice Vol-III’

The event saw the launch of ‘Nature’s Voice Vol-III’, CCL’s annual environmental magazine published by the Environment Department. The magazine showcases the organization’s green initiatives and employee creativity.

Launch of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ Campaign

The event concluded with the symbolic planting of trees under the newly launched “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign by CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh, Director Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, and CVO Pankaj Kumar. This unique initiative blends respect for motherhood with environmental consciousness, with thousands of trees being distributed and planted across all CCL areas, including the headquarters.

Under the visionary leadership of CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh, CCL continues to champion environmental protection through regular awareness programs, creating lasting impact among employees and the wider community.

The event was ably anchored by General Manager (Environment) Sangeeta, and the vote of thanks was delivered by General Manager (Environment) Raj Kumar. The Environment Department, in collaboration with other departments, played a crucial role in the success of the program.
