Central Vigilance Commissioner Visits PNB; Unveils PSB’s Initiatives to Strengthen Transparency and Accountability

During this visit, Punjab National Bank launched several major digital and governance initiatives

Punjab National Bank (PNB), one of India’s leading public sector banks, marked a significant milestone in its pursuit of enhanced vigilance, transparency, and ethical governance during the visit of the Central Vigilance Commissioner, Praveen Kumar Srivastava, at the Bank’s Corporate Office.

As part of the event, the 5th Edition of “PNB’s Vigilance Manual 2025” and the September 2025 issue of “PNB Vigil”, the Bank’s quarterly vigilance magazine, were unveiled. The ceremony was graced by Ashok Chandra, MD & CEO, Bibhu Prasad Mahapatra, Executive Director, Raghvendra Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer, and other senior officials of the Bank.

Key Digital Initiatives Launched

During the visit, Punjab National Bank launched several major digital and governance initiatives, including:

  • End-to-End Digitization of the Staff Accountability Portal
  • Conduct Risk Framework (for employees)
  • Digital Solution for PM Street Vendor’s AtmaNirbhar NIDHI (PM SVANidhi)

These technology-driven initiatives reaffirm PNB’s commitment to leveraging digital tools to promote transparency, accountability, and efficiency across all operational layers of the institution.

Building a Culture of Ethical Excellence

Central Vigilance Commissioner Praveen Kumar Srivastava commended PNB’s initiatives, stating: “The well-being of society, economic growth, and job creation are closely linked to the contributions of banks like Punjab National Bank. The goal is to build a culture of vigilance driven not by fear of punishment but by the commitment to do what is right. Such a culture benefits individuals, organisations, and society, and contributes to the nation’s journey toward a Viksit Bharat by 2047.”

Ashok Chandra, MD & CEO, PNB, remarked: “As India moves towards becoming a developed nation by 2047, our responsibility increases manifold. PNB is committed to driving sustainable and inclusive growth grounded in integrity, ethics, and transparency. Preventive vigilance is essential in ensuring progress remains aligned with strong governance and accountability.”

Vigilance Awareness Week 2025: Reinforcing Integrity Nationwide

PNB’s observance of Vigilance Awareness Week 2025 underscores its dedication to transparency and ethical governance. Beginning with the nationwide Integrity Pledge on October 27, over one lakh employees and numerous customers participated in spreading the message of integrity.

The Bank also engaged the public through extensive digital and physical outreach—displaying vigilance messages across 11,000 ATMs, mobile apps, and WhatsApp Banking, and organising awareness drives in 8,000 Gram Sabhas nationwide.

Employee participation was exceptional, with various competitions, walkathons, cyclothons, and blood donation drives collecting over 4,300 units of blood. PNB also achieved zero pendency in vigilance-related complaints, underscoring its strong focus on preventive vigilance and responsible governance.

Through these sustained efforts, Punjab National Bank continues to strengthen its position as a responsible and transparent public sector bank, actively contributing to India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
