Chhonzin Angmo Becomes the Only Visually Impaired Woman to Conquer Everest, Elbrus, and Kilimanjaro

An employee of Union Bank of India, hails from the rugged mountainous region of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh

Chhonzin Angmo, an employee of Union Bank of India and a visually impaired mountaineer, has scripted history by successfully summiting Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895 metres), the highest peak in Africa. With this remarkable feat, Angmo has become the only visually impaired woman in the world to conquer Mount Everest, Mount Elbrus, and Mount Kilimanjaro, completing an extraordinary trilogy of global mountaineering achievements.

Union Bank of India congratulated Angmo for her exceptional accomplishment, calling it a moment of pride not only for the Bank but for the nation as a whole.

The summit of Kilimanjaro was achieved under extreme and unpredictable weather conditions, significantly enhancing the difficulty and importance of the expedition. Although often perceived as a trekking peak, Mount Kilimanjaro proved particularly challenging during this climb. While ascending through the Lemosho Route, the expedition team encountered heavy snowfall, freezing temperatures, and extremely poor visibility.

Despite these harsh conditions, Angmo displayed exceptional resilience, focus, and mental strength to reach the summit, reaffirming her reputation as one of the most inspiring mountaineers in the world.

Union Bank of India extended complete financial support for the expedition, reaffirming its commitment to inclusivity, empowerment, and excellence. The climb received technical support from Boots & Crampons, a leading mountaineering and expedition company. The expertise of experienced guides, combined with Angmo’s determination and extensive high-altitude experience, ensured a safe and successful summit despite treacherous terrain and weather.

Hailing from the rugged mountainous region of Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh, Chhonzin Angmo has emerged as a global inspiration for the differently-abled community. With every expedition, she continues to challenge conventional perceptions of disability and redefine the true meaning of “vision”—one rooted not in sight, but in courage, perseverance, and unwavering self-belief.

With her successful ascent of Mount Kilimanjaro, Angmo once again delivers a powerful message to the world: limitations exist only when belief fades.
