CMPDI Celebrates 51st CIL & CMPDI Foundation Day in Ranchi

The minister and other dignitaries presented corporate awards to various Departments and Regional Institutes of CMPDI for their outstanding performance in 2024–25

The Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), a Mini-Ratna company, celebrated the 51st Foundation Day of Coal India Limited (CIL) and CMPDI on 20 November at its headquarters in Ranchi with great enthusiasm.

Sanjay Seth, Minister of State for Defence, Government of India, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. In his address, he said that completing 50 successful years is a significant milestone for both CIL and CMPDI. He highlighted that high-quality R&D and continuous innovation have been instrumental in CMPDI’s journey and commended the organisation’s dedication in meeting the nation’s energy requirements. He added that CMPDI is making a noteworthy contribution to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and the national goal of Net Zero by 2070.

N. C. Jha, Former Chairman, Coal India Limited and Special Guest of Honour, appreciated CMPDI’s long-standing contributions and stressed the importance of deeper integration of Information Technology. He suggested that CMPDI diversify its service offerings and strengthen its Business Development efforts to capture emerging opportunities in the mining sector.

Former CMD, CMPDI, Manoj Kumar, stated that CMPDI’s future roadmap must be aligned with India’s Viksit Bharat vision and Net-Zero commitments. He affirmed that CMPDI is well-positioned to leverage new opportunities to support the country’s rising energy demand.

Satish Jha, CMD, CMPDI (Additional Charge) & CMD, ECL, highlighted CMPDI’s major achievements over the past year. He emphasised that in a rapidly evolving global scenario, CMPDI must aggressively diversify beyond coal and move into Critical and Rare Earth Elements (REEs), clean energy technologies, AI/ML-driven smart mining, and other advanced solutions. This transition, he stated, is essential for CMPDI to retain its leadership in innovation and resource management.

During the ceremony, Sanjay Seth and other dignitaries presented corporate awards to various Departments and Regional Institutes of CMPDI for their outstanding performance in 2024–25.

The event was attended by senior officials including Nilendu Kumar Singh, CMD, CCL; Shankar Nagachari, Director (Technical/CRD); Rajiv Kumar Sinha, Director (Technical/ES); Nripendra Nath, Director (Technical/RD&T); Dr Kamakshi Raman, Executive Director, IICM; former CMDs, former Directors, former GMs of CMPDI and CIL, all Regional Directors, GMs/HoDs, and representatives of CMOAI.
