CMPDI Inter-Zonal Chess Tournament 2026 Inaugurated at Coal Nagar, Dhanbad

The three-day championship will conclude on January 7, 2026

The CMPDI Inter-Zonal Chess Tournament 2026, organised by Central Mine Planning & Design Institute (CMPDI), Regional Institute-II, Dhanbad, under the aegis of Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), was inaugurated on Monday, at Annapurna Hall, Coal Nagar, with a grand ceremonial programme.

The tournament was formally inaugurated by Murali Krishna Ramaiah, Director (Human Resources), CMPDI, in the presence of Uma Shankar Singh, Regional Director, senior officials, heads of departments, representatives of employees’ associations and unions, and a large number of sports enthusiasts.

The inaugural programme commenced with the hoisting of the Coal India flag, followed by the mass singing of the Coal India song, setting an inspiring tone for the event.

Addressing the gathering, Murali Krishna Ramaiah congratulated the participants and emphasised the importance of sports in organisational life. He said that sports help inculcate discipline, concentration, teamwork, and resilience, while intellectual games such as chess sharpen strategic thinking, decision-making abilities, and patience, qualities that are equally relevant in the professional workplace.

Uma Shankar Singh, Regional Director, welcomed the players and guests and expressed gratitude to all those involved in organising the tournament. He noted that such sporting events promote positive energy, camaraderie, and cooperation among employees and encouraged participants to give their best performance while upholding the spirit of sportsmanship.

Teams from CMPDI’s Regional Institutes at Asansol, Dhanbad, Ranchi, Nagpur, Bilaspur and Bhubaneswar, along with CMPDI Headquarters, Ranchi, are participating in the tournament.
