Coal Giant NCL Is Moving Towards Renewable To Become A Net Zero Company
The PSU is aggressively focusing on generating 270 MW of solar power for internal consumption by year 2025-26
In line with Nations’ Commitment towards Energy Transition and improving on the share of clean energy, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Coal India arm is responding positively to these shifts and moving swiftly towards producing the Renewable energy to become a Net Zero Company under the aegis of its Sustainable Development Cell.
With its robust energy strategy, the PSU is aggressively focusing on generating 270 MW of solar power for internal consumption by year 2025-26, with an approx. Capital Expenditure of 440 crores.
Company has already started working on the 50 MW Ground Mounted Solar Project in Nigahi Area of NCL along with 3.37 MW roof top Solar Project in Offices and Townships of Different units of the Company including its HQ.
Besides this, NCL is also adopting the energy efficient measures across Mining and other major operations like deployment of new HEMMs with state of the arts technology, developing the new First Mile Connectivity projects, replacing conventional lights with LED lights, normal ACs with Energy efficient BEE 5 star rated AC, old Fans with BLDC fans and Pumps with energy efficient ones. Company is also mulling over introducing the e-vehicles shortly.
In last 5 years, the company has already replaced more than 2.5 lakh conventional lights with LED lights which lead to the saving of 38 million units of Electricity and approx. 35 crores of Electricity Bill. Also with the right planning, company has saved around 14 crores per annum in form of incentives for consuming more electricity beyond peak hours and timely payment of bills.
In Line with company’s commitment towards energy-conservation and environmental protection, the installation of about 77 thousand LED lights, more than 500 energy efficient ACs, more than 22 thousand fans, e-vehicles, water heaters, motors, auto timers etc. is in progress and the work is expected to be completed by the year 2022-23.
All these initiatives talk loud about the Company’s Commitment towards becoming a Net Zero company and ensuring the energy efficiency measures to save the cost, environment and the society at large.
