A press conference on non-communicable diseases (NCDs) and their prevention was organized today at Kailash Hospital, Health Care Sector 27, Noida. The event was jointly hosted by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) and Kailash Hospital, Noida.

The conference aimed to raise awareness about the lifestyle choices, parenting, and preventive measures concerning NCDs, particularly among adolescents and adults. A workshop preceded the conference, followed by a one-day conference focused on the prevention of NCDs.

The main objective of this conference was to discuss the growing prevalence of NCDs and the importance of taking preventive action. The issue is critical as the prevalence of NCDs in India has risen significantly over the years. For instance, the prevalence of NCDs in 1995 was 8.6%, but this has since tripled.

In response to this alarming trend, the Government of India has committed to focusing its efforts not only on the treatment of NCDs but also on their prevention. To support this initiative, the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) has launched the Sankalp Sampoona Swastha Mission, aiming to educate school children, teachers, and parents on avoiding junk food, sugary drinks, carbonated beverages, and fast food.

The mission also promotes reading food labels and encouraging positive parenting. The IAP has introduced the 75210 concept as part of this initiative, which recommends:

 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep
 5 servings of vegetables and fruits
 2 hours or less of screen time
 1 hour of physical activity
 0 carbonated and sugary drinks
