The 29.6 km long expressway is being built at a cost of Rs 9000 crore
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, announced that the construction of the country’s first elevated 8-lane access control Dwarka Expressway is underway. The expressway spans a length of 29.6 km and is being built at a cost of Rs 9000 crore. It is expected to be completed by April 2024.
The expressway consists of two sections: an 18.9 km stretch in Haryana constructed on a single pillar and a 10.1 km stretch in Delhi. The width of the expressway is 34 meters. Shri Gadkari, along with other officials including Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri Vinay Kumar Saxena, Union Minister of State Shri General V.K. Singh, Union Minister of State Shri Rao Inderjit Singh, MP Shri Pravesh Singh Verma, and MP Shri Ramesh Bidhuri, inspected the expressway during a recent visit.
Shri Gadkari explained that the expressway features a four-level road network comprising a combination of flyovers, tunnels, underpasses, grade roads, elevated roads, and flyovers. Additionally, a 3-lane service road is being constructed on both sides of the expressway. Notably, the expressway includes the construction of a 3.6 km-long, 8-lane tunnel in Delhi, which is the widest tunnel of its kind in the country. This tunnel aims to enhance connectivity between Haryana and West Delhi, particularly to the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
The expressway will intersect Pataudi Road (SH-26) near Harsaru and Farukhnagar (SH-15A) near Basai in Haryana. Furthermore, it will also cross the Delhi-Rewari rail line near Gurgaon Sector-88 (B) and UER-II at Bharthal. The expressway will connect Gurgaon’s Sector-21 with Sector-88, 83, 84, 99, 113, and Dwarka to Global City. The entire expressway will be equipped with an Intelligent Transport System (ITS) facility, aiming to enhance transportation efficiency and management.
