Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda Recommended as Next SAIL Chairman
The spotlight has now shifted to the Ministry of Steel, which is yet to take a call on appointing an interim CMD
Public Enterprises Selection Board has recommended Dr. Ashok Kumar Panda, Director (Finance), Steel Authority of India Limited, for the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the steel major.
The recommendation follows a high-stakes selection process in which 10 candidates were shortlisted and interviewed for one of the most prestigious leadership roles in India’s public sector.
Interim CMD Decision Still Pending
With incumbent CMD Amarendu Prakash set to demit office on April 1, the spotlight has now shifted to the Ministry of Steel, which is yet to take a call on appointing an interim CMD.
This interim arrangement will be crucial to ensure continuity at the helm of the Maharatna steel giant during the transition phase.
Final Appointment Subject to ACC Approval
Despite the recommendation by PESB, the final appointment is not immediate.
The selected candidate will undergo multi-layered scrutiny across various government departments before the proposal is placed before the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for final approval.
Given the procedural rigour, the formal appointment may take some time.
