G. Kishan Reddy Urges Fast-Track Exploration of Critical Minerals at NMEDT Meet
Focus on Aatmanirbharta in Critical Minerals; States Urged to Fast-Track Exploration Projects & Approvals

Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy chaired the 7th Governing Body meeting of the National Mineral Exploration and Development Trust (NMEDT) in New Delhi, reviewing its FY 2025–26 performance and calling for accelerated exploration of critical minerals to achieve Aatmanirbharta.
He directed states to fast-track approvals, improve coordination, and reduce exploration-to-auction timelines. Emphasizing technology adoption, he highlighted the use of AI/ML, drone surveys, and modern beneficiation techniques, along with greater participation from startups and private exploration agencies.
Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh stressed stronger monitoring, coordination, and integration of scientific institutions to ensure timely project execution.
Key Highlights:
- NMET renamed as NMEDT (Sept 2025); contribution increased from 2% to 3% of royalty
- Expanded mandate includes offshore exploration and projects within & outside India
- ₹20 crore funding support per pilot project under National Critical Mineral Mission
- Pilot project approved for rare earth mineral separation
- Focus on sustainable mining, resource efficiency, and circular use of minerals
- 76 critical mineral exploration projects sanctioned in FY 2025–26
- 45 blocks auctioned, including 10 critical mineral blocks
The initiatives aim to boost domestic mineral security, strengthen exploration, and support India’s energy transition and technological growth.
