Goa Shipyard Limited Launches ICGS ATAL Fast Patrol Vessel for Indian Coast Guard
Sixth indigenously designed Fast Patrol Vessel launched by Goa Shipyard to strengthen coastal security

Reinforcing India’s maritime self-reliance and commitment to indigenisation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) launched the ICGS ATAL (Yard 1275) Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) today in a ceremonial event held at Vasco-da-Gama, Goa.
The ICGS ATAL is the sixth in a series of eight state-of-the-art FPVs being built by GSL, a premier Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) under the Ministry of Defence. These vessels are indigenously designed in-house at GSL, showcasing India’s growing capabilities in advanced naval shipbuilding.
With a length of 52 metres, an 8-metre beam, and a displacement of 320 tonnes, the FPV is built for multi-mission capabilities. The vessel is equipped to perform a range of operations, including coastal patrol, offshore asset protection, island security, and search and rescue missions. It is also capable of carrying out anti-smuggling and anti-piracy operations, thereby significantly enhancing India’s maritime domain awareness and national security footprint.
Addressing the gathering, Brajesh Kumar Upadhyay, Chairman & Managing Director of GSL, said: “The launch of ICGS ATAL reflects the indomitable spirit of Team GSL and its unwavering commitment to indigenisation, innovation, and excellence in shipbuilding, even amidst global supply chain challenges.”
Rozy Agarwal, Principal Internal Financial Advisor (PIFA) at Coast Guard Headquarters, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion, praised GSL for its strong execution capabilities and pivotal role in bolstering the country’s maritime security.
The launch ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, Ministry of Defence, industry partners, and senior GSL personnel, marking another milestone in India’s march towards maritime self-reliance.
