Government Employees National Confederation Declines Participation In Proposed National Strike
GENC, an affiliate of Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), terms the July 9 strike as politically motivated

In a significant development ahead of the proposed nationwide strike on July 9, 2025, the Government Employees National Confederation (GENC) — affiliated with the Bhartiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) — has announced that it will not participate in the agitation. The confederation has termed the strike, called by several major trade unions, as “politically motivated” and not aligned with its principles.
Mukesh Singh, General Secretary of GENC and Member, National Council (JCM), Government of India, communicated the confederation’s decision through a formal letter addressed to the Cabinet Secretary, Government of India.
In the letter, Singh emphasized that GENC’s ideology and approach differ significantly from the unions leading the strike. “We do not subscribe to ideologically driven protests that appear to serve political interests rather than the genuine welfare of employees,” Singh wrote.
He reiterated GENC’s commitment to constructive dialogue and institutional mechanisms to address the concerns of government employees, rather than disruptive methods that could affect essential public services.
