Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy to Inaugurate GSI’s International Seminar in Jaipur

Seminar on ‘Unearthing the Past, Shaping the Future: 175 Years of GSI’ scheduled for November 20–21, 2025

The Geological Survey of India (GSI), under the Ministry of Mines, Government of India, is set to host an International Seminar titled “Unearthing the Past, Shaping the Future: 175 Years of GSI” on November 20–21, 2025 at the Rajasthan International Centre (RIC), Jaipur. The event is part of GSI’s year-long celebrations commemorating 175 years of its service to the nation.

Union Minister of Coal & Mines G. Kishan Reddy will inaugurate the seminar in the august presence of Shri Piyush Goyal, Secretary, Ministry of Mines, and Shri T. Ravikanth, Principal Secretary, Mines & Petroleum, Government of Rajasthan.

The seminar will be spearheaded by Asit Saha, Director General, GSI & Patron, and Vijay V. Mugal, Additional Director General & HoD, Western Region, who also serves as the Chairman of the Seminar. Senior officials, distinguished geoscientists, and delegates from India and abroad will participate in the two-day programme.

Founded in 1851, the GSI has played a pivotal role in geological mapping, mineral exploration, identification of critical and strategic minerals, geohazard studies, and advancing scientific research crucial for national development. The upcoming seminar will bring together global experts to discuss emerging challenges, technological innovations, and the future direction of geosciences.

The technical sessions will comprise 9 plenary lectures, 19 special lectures, and more than 300 scientific and poster presentations across 11 thematic areas. Eminent scientists from organizations such as the British Geological Survey (BGS), United States Geological Survey (USGS), Geoscience Australia, and prestigious universities including Lancaster University (UK), University of Michigan (USA), University of Texas (USA), and the Italian National Research Council will contribute to the discussions.

An exhibition showcasing advanced geospatial technologies, cutting-edge tools, and industry innovations will run alongside the seminar. The event will also see the signing of MoUs with IIT Bombay and IIT Kharagpur, aimed at boosting collaboration in frontier geoscience research and capacity building.

The International Seminar marks a major milestone in GSI’s illustrious legacy, reaffirming its commitment to scientific excellence, sustainable resource development, and global knowledge exchange as it enters its 175th year of service to the nation.
