“No Reason to Panic,” Assures Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Energy Supplies

We have taken steps to ensure that 100% supply of CNG and PNG to domestic consumers is maintained, said the minister

Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, has reassured the nation that India’s energy supplies remain stable despite the ongoing geopolitical tensions affecting global markets.

During an informal interaction with members of the media, the minister said that India’s energy imports are continuing to flow smoothly from multiple sources and routes, ensuring that domestic demand remains fully met.

Puri highlighted that the government has taken proactive measures to safeguard supplies of natural gas to households and key sectors. “We have taken steps to ensure that 100% supply of CNG and PNG to domestic consumers is maintained,” he said.

He added that industries are also receiving around 70–80% of their usual gas supplies, even amid global disruptions, indicating that the government has been able to manage the situation effectively through diversified sourcing and supply planning.

Reiterating the government’s commitment to energy security, the minister said the priority remains uninterrupted access to affordable energy for citizens. “We are committed to ensuring uninterrupted supply of affordable energy to our domestic consumers,” he said, adding that there is no shortage for households and no reason to panic.

Government Sources Outline Additional Measures

Reliable sources told www.indianpsu.com that the Centre is also taking several operational steps to address concerns related to LPG supply and ensure uninterrupted availability for both households and businesses.

Oil marketing companies — Indian Oil Corporation, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited — will engage with different restaurant associations to understand their issues related to commercial LPG availability.

To streamline the process, the government has constituted a three-member committee comprising executive directors of the three OMCs. The committee will address grievances of commercial consumers and ensure that genuine requirements for commercial LPG are met. It will also reprioritize LPG supplies based on sectoral needs.

According to the sources, the reprioritization exercise has already started showing results. Domestic LPG production has increased by around 10% in the past few days, while LPG and LNG consignments are continuing to arrive from multiple global sources. Some additional consignments are also expected shortly to further strengthen supplies.

Officials emphasized that India’s refining sector remains fully operational, with refineries running at full capacity, as they were prior to the recent tensions linked to the Iran–Israel conflict.

They also noted that around 70% of India’s crude oil imports are currently sourced from regions other than the Strait of Hormuz, significantly reducing vulnerability to supply disruptions.

“India has faced similar situations in the past, but today we are not in any trouble regarding petroleum products,” a government source said.

Officials added that the country has emerged from the current situation better prepared and more resilient, expressing confidence that India will recover faster than many other countries once the crisis subsides.
