Harish Duhan Takes Charge As CMD Of SECL

Harish Duhan has officially assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL). His appointment follows the retirement of Dr. Prem Sagar Mishra, who superannuated on January 31, 2025. Until now, Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) CMD JP Dwivedi had been holding the additional charge of SECL CMD.
Selection Process
On December 7, 2024, the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB), the headhunter for Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), recommended Harish Duhan’s name for the post of CMD, SECL. His selection followed an interview process where 11 officers competed for the prestigious position. PESB subsequently released the final selection list.
Career Background of Harish Duhan
Before his appointment at SECL, Harish Duhan was serving as Director (Technical & Operations) at Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), a position he took over in March 2024. Prior to that, he held significant leadership roles within Coal India subsidiaries, including:
- Area General Manager of Nigahi Project at Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL).
- General Manager in the Corporate Project Planning Department of NCL.
Experience and Expertise
With an extensive career spanning over 34 years in the mining sector, Harish Duhan has played a crucial role in several landmark initiatives. His expertise includes the successful execution of Coal India’s First-Mile Connectivity (FMC), digitalization, and solar projects.
A Mining Engineering graduate from Nagpur University, Duhan began his journey with Coal India at WCL in 1989. Additionally, he holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Management, further strengthening his credentials as an industry leader.
