INC-WMC Successfully Concludes International Conference On ‘Sustainable And Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices’

The Indian National Committee of the World Mining Congress (INC-WMC) successfully concluded its International Conference on “Sustainable and Responsible Mining through Best Mine Closure Practices” today in Hyderabad. The event brought together a diverse array of policymakers, industry leaders, environmental experts, academia, and stakeholders from India and abroad to deliberate on sustainable mine closure strategies and share global best practices.
The conference was graced by G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Coal & Mines and Patron, INC-WMC, who inspired participants with his forward-looking vision for a greener, safer, and more sustainable mining future. In his address, he reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to responsible mining and environmental stewardship.

Senior officials including V.L. Kantha Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Mines & Co-Chairperson, INC-WMC, and P.M. Prasad, Chairman, Coal India Ltd. & Member Secretary, INC-WMC, played key roles in providing direction and expert insight. Rupinder Brar, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal & Chairperson, Executive Committee, INC-WMC, delivered the thematic introduction and remained actively engaged throughout the sessions, helping set a constructive tone for the event.
The conference facilitated vibrant knowledge exchange, with national and international experts presenting innovations and case studies in sustainable mining and mine closure practices. These discussions are expected to inform policy and operational strategies across India’s mining ecosystem.
