Independence Day Celebrated with Patriotic Zeal Across CCL

CCL CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh hoists the National Flag in Gandhinagar

Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and enthusiasm across all its areas, including the headquarters. At the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Gandhinagar Colony, CMD Nilendu Kumar Singh unfurled the tricolour and took the salute at an impressive parade by security forces and students.

Present on the occasion were Director (HR) Harsh Nath Mishra, Director (Technical/Operations) Chandra Shekhar Tiwari, Chief Vigilance Officer Pankaj Kumar, CISF DIG Anuradha, departmental heads, trade union representatives, and a large gathering of employees.

In his address, CMD Singh extended warm Independence Day greetings and paid tribute to the valour of the nation’s martyrs. Highlighting CCL’s achievements, he noted a record performance in production and dispatch last year, with a PBT exceeding ₹5,400 crore and 96% grade conformity. He also detailed the company’s progress in environmental initiatives, renewable energy, and community welfare programmes.

Key initiatives include plantation over 245 hectares, commissioning of 20 MW (Piparwar) and 4 MW (Giridih) solar plants, start of KBP OCP operations, upcoming Chandragupta OCP, and installation of five new washeries with a combined capacity of 14.5 MT. The New Kathara Coking Coal Washery will be Coal India’s first BOO project, with an investment of ₹380 crore.

Singh also emphasised CCL’s contributions to education, healthcare, and sports — including the ‘Nanha Sa Dil’ heart care initiative for 45,000 children, Digital-Vidya, Mid-day Meal kitchens, women’s self-employment programmes, and sports academies whose cadets have won over 1,800 medals, including 15 internationally.

The event concluded with honours to CCL security personnel, CISF, NCC cadets, and schoolchildren for exemplary performances. Patriotic cultural programmes by students of DAV Gandhinagar, Kendriya Vidyalaya, and Gyanodya School were widely applauded. The celebrations were streamed live on CCL’s official YouTube channel, with the symbolic release of tri-coloured balloons by dignitaries spreading the message of unity and integrity.

Earlier in the day, Director (HR) Harsh Nath Mishra unfurled the flag at JSSPS, Darbhanga House Campus, and Gandhinagar Hospital, extending Independence Day greetings to all.
