India and Japan Strengthen Energy Cooperation through Ministerial Dialogue

Dialogue strengthens Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership for a secure and sustainable Indo-Pacific energy future

India and Japan have further deepened their partnership in the energy sector under the Japan-India Clean Energy Partnership, focusing on energy security, clean energy transition, and joint action on climate change. The two nations have institutionalized this cooperation through the India-Japan Energy Dialogue and sectoral Joint Working Groups (JWGs).

A Ministerial-level India-Japan Energy Dialogue was held today via video conferencing, co-chaired by Manohar Lal, Minister of Power and Housing & Urban Affairs, Government of India, and Muto Yoji, Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Government of Japan.

Senior officials from India’s Ministry of Power (MoP), Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG), and Ministry of Coal presented detailed updates on the progress made under their respective JWGs and outlined future cooperation pathways.

During the Dialogue, both Ministers:

  • Reaffirmed their commitment to energy security and inclusive growth.
  • Welcomed progress in areas such as energy efficiency, clean hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy.
  • Agreed to expand collaboration on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS), green chemicals, biofuels, and advanced energy technologies.

The Ministers emphasized that the India–Japan energy partnership will remain pivotal in advancing secure, resilient, and sustainable energy systems across the Indo-Pacific region.
