India, Canada Renew Energy Ties with Joint Statement at India Energy Week 2026
Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration across LNG, LPG, crude oil, refined fuels, clean energy and critical minerals

India and Canada on Tuesday signed a Joint Statement on Energy Cooperation at India Energy Week 2026, marking a major reset in bilateral energy engagement with the launch of a renewed India–Canada Ministerial Energy Dialogue.
Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri met Canadian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Timothy Hodgson, marking the first-ever participation of a Canadian Cabinet Minister at IEW.
Both sides agreed to deepen collaboration across LNG, LPG, crude oil, refined fuels, clean energy and critical minerals, recognising India as the world’s fastest-growing major energy market and Canada as a reliable global energy supplier.
Key outcomes include:
- Commitment to expand bilateral trade in LNG, LPG and crude oil, with India supplying refined petroleum products to Canada.
- Push for reciprocal investments, with India highlighting a $500 billion opportunity across its energy value chain and Canada advancing over $116 billion in energy and resource projects.
- Cooperation in clean energy, including hydrogen, biofuels, SAF, battery storage, CCUS, critical minerals, renewable power, and AI applications in energy.
- Continued collaboration on climate goals and global energy transition, including through the Global Biofuels Alliance, where Canada is an observer.
The ministers also reaffirmed the importance of energy security, diversified supply chains, and stronger Business-to-Business partnerships, positioning the India–Canada relationship as a strategic pillar in the evolving global energy landscape.
