Indian Oil Officers’ Association Writes To Top Management, Flags Concerns Over Independent/Common Carriers and Manpower Reduction

Raises red flags over synergy narrative, transparency issues, and resource crunch in critical technical domains

The Indian Oil Officers’ Association (IOOA), the apex representative body of officers of Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), has written to the top management of the Maharatna PSU, expressing serious concerns regarding the push for independent or common carriers of pipelines under the guise of “synergy” and “cost competitiveness.”

In a strongly worded two-page letter as representation addressed to IOCL’s senior leadership, the IOOA has questioned the rationale behind these moves, warning that such steps could dilute the corporation’s operational autonomy and weaken its strategic infrastructure capabilities. Which in turns extending benefits to private players in the country.

The IOOA letter further highlights a lack of transparency in key decision-making processes and expresses deep concern over the ongoing manpower reduction, particularly in technically sensitive domains such as Pipelines and Research & Development (R&D). The officers’ body fears that inadequate staffing in these critical areas could undermine the long-term technical excellence and operational safety of the organization.

“This trend is alarming and could lead to irreversible impacts on IOCL’s technical competencies,” the IOOA cautioned.

The officers have requested immediate engagement with the management to address these issues and ensure that any strategic restructuring does not compromise the core strengths and national role of the corporation.
