Chief Minister Reviews Disaster Relief and Rescue Operations

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday reviewed the ongoing relief and rescue operations in the disaster-affected areas of Uttarakhand. He directed all departments to take maximum precautionary measures to safeguard lives and property in sensitive regions and ensure that affected people receive immediate assistance.

The Chief Minister emphasized the need for constant readiness of the disaster management system in view of the Meteorological Department’s alert for the coming days.

Key Directives from the Chief Minister:

  • Districts will receive all possible support from the state government for relief and rescue operations.
  • Road restoration and infrastructure repair must be prioritized, with tenders and formalities completed at the earliest.
  • Char Dham Yatra arrangements to be streamlined, anticipating an increase in pilgrims after the rains and during the festival season.
  • Special attention to removing debris safely from riverbanks, particularly in Uttarkashi’s Syanachatti area, to prevent obstruction during rainfall.
  • Water and electricity supply in affected areas must be restored promptly.
  • Animal Husbandry teams to be deployed in all villages for the treatment of disaster-affected livestock.
  • Constant monitoring of river water levels with immediate evacuation of people living along riverbanks in case of risk.
  • No encroachment to be allowed along rivers and streams.
  • Irrigation department officials to remain deployed at all dams, with timely alerts provided to district administrations before release of water.

The Chief Minister praised the relief and rescue teams for their quick response at ground zero and urged all departments to maintain the same level of promptness and coordination.

He assured District Magistrates that they should feel free to raise any requirement with the government, and instructed the Secretary of Disaster Management and Rehabilitation to take immediate action on district-level demands and release necessary funds without delay.

The review meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, Home Secretary Shailesh Bagauli, DGP Deepam Seth, Secretary Dr. Pankaj Pandey, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman, Commissioner Garhwal Vinay Shankar Pandey, Commissioner Kumaon Deepak Rawat, along with District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police of all districts.
