Metro Project in Greater Noida West Is Need Of The Hour : Gautam Budh Nagar MP Dr Mahesh Sharma

Residents of Greater Noida West continue to face severe transport challenges due to the absence of a metro service, remarked the MP

Member of Parliament (MP) from Gautam Budh Nagar, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, raised the issue of the long-pending metro project for Noida-Greater Noida in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. Stressing the urgent need for improved transport infrastructure in the region, he urged the Urban Development Ministry to expedite the approval process for the metro expansion.

Dr. Sharma highlighted that the Noida-Greater Noida region is a key economic and residential hub in Uttar Pradesh and an integral part of the National Capital Region (NCR). He emphasized that despite the rapid development of the area, residents of Greater Noida West continue to face severe transport challenges due to the absence of a metro service. He pointed out that over eight years have passed since the project was conceived, but work has yet to commence.

Metro Expansion Critical for the Region

The MP informed the House that Greater Noida West is home to over 800,000 residents, including a significant number of middle-class families and students, who depend on efficient public transport for their daily commute. He cited communication from Dr. M Lokesh, Managing Director of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC), indicating that the Uttar Pradesh government has already contributed its share of the project funding. However, the proposal has been pending with the Ministry of Urban Development for several months, delaying the project’s commencement.

Dr. Sharma urged the ministry to take immediate action to clear the pending file, noting that the project’s delay has resulted in increased traffic congestion, pollution, and developmental bottlenecks in the region.

Connectivity to Jewar Airport

In addition to the metro issue, Dr. Sharma stressed the need for a dedicated national highway from Noida’s Kalindi Kunj to Greater Noida and Jewar Airport. With the airport set to become operational soon under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Dr. Sharma argued that seamless road connectivity was essential. He stated that without a proper transport network, commuters traveling to the airport would face traffic bottlenecks, hampering the overall efficiency of the region’s infrastructure.

The MP also called for the immediate revival of the 25-year-old expressway system to facilitate smoother travel across the region and support Jewar Airport’s status as a major aviation hub.

Government Response Awaited

With mounting concerns from residents and stakeholders, Dr. Sharma’s push in Parliament has added fresh momentum to the demand for improved transport infrastructure in Noida-Greater Noida. The response from the Ministry of Urban Development is now awaited, as the region looks forward to much-needed metro connectivity and better road infrastructure.
