Mahanagar Gas Limited Signs MoU with Oil India Limited to Collaborate Across LNG Value Chain

Under this strategic MoU, both organisations will collaborate to explore opportunities across the LNG value chain and other emerging areas in the clean energy segment

Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), one of India’s leading City Gas Distribution (CGD) companies, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Oil India Limited (OIL), a Maharatna public sector enterprise with integrated operations across the oil and gas value chain. The MoU was signed on October 6, 2025, by senior officials — VP (BD, BIS, Commercial & STU), MGL and ED (BD), OIL — in the presence of Mr. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director, MGL, and Mr. Trailukya Borgohain, Director (Operations), and Mr. Harish Kumar, Director (HR), OIL.

MGL, which has successfully ventured into the LNG value chain, currently operates LNG retail stations and continues to expand its portfolio of clean energy solutions. OIL, on the other hand, has an extensive hydrocarbon exploration and production program, with ambitious plans to enhance gas output and advance its clean energy initiatives.

Under this strategic MoU, both organisations will collaborate to explore opportunities across the LNG value chain and other emerging areas in the clean energy segment.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ashu Shinghal, Managing Director, MGL, said, “This collaboration with OIL will help accelerate the adoption of cleaner fuels in the long-haul transport sector. It will enable corporates to transition towards greener logistics solutions and contribute significantly to reducing the overall pollution footprint.”

Mr. Trailukya Borgohain, Director (Operations), OIL, added, “The partnership will focus on assessing the technical and commercial viability of LNG for heavy-duty transport applications and on exploring clean energy projects. Our aim is to convert feasible pilot initiatives into commercially scalable ventures.”

The MoU marks an important step towards strengthening India’s clean energy ecosystem and promoting sustainable mobility solutions through LNG and other low-emission energy alternatives.
