MoD Inks ₹2,000 Crore Contract with BEL for Air Defence Fire Control Radars for Indian Army

Indigenously developed radars to bolster Indian Army’s air defence capabilities and boost ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ through MSME participation

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed a significant contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the procurement of state-of-the-art Air Defence Fire Control Radars for the Indian Army. Valued at approximately ₹2,000 crore, the contract falls under the Buy (Indian – Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured) category of defence acquisition.

The agreement was formally signed and exchanged in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi on July 25, 2025, by senior officials from the MoD and BEL.

These advanced Fire Control Radars, with a minimum of 70% indigenous content, are designed to detect a wide range of airborne threats including fighter aircraft, attack helicopters, and hostile drones. Their induction will mark a major milestone in the modernisation of the Indian Army’s Air Defence Regiments, significantly enhancing operational preparedness.

This procurement not only strengthens national security but also contributes to India’s economic growth by boosting indigenous defence manufacturing. The initiative is expected to provide a major thrust to Indian MSMEs involved in components manufacturing and raw material supply, thereby reinforcing the Government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat in the defence sector.
