CCL’s National Seminar: In-depth discussion on safe blasting, innovative technologies and future direction in mining sector

The seminar organized by Central Coalfields Limited under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety concluded today

The second day of the two-day National Seminar on “Latest Advancement In Use of Explosives and Blasting Technology in Mines and Way Forward” organized by Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) under the aegis of the Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS) concluded today with extensive technical sessions and high-level discussions.

Deliberations on DGMS Draft Guidelines

The day began with a detailed examination of the draft guidelines prepared by DGMS regarding the use of E-Exploders and Electronic Detonators in mining operations. Experts shared insights on safety standards, technical prerequisites, and the future practical applications of these advanced technologies in India’s mining ecosystem.

Technical Sessions on Modern Explosive and Blasting Technologies

Three technical sessions followed, where mining experts, scientists, and industry representatives from across India presented research papers and case studies.

The discussions highlighted:

  • Safe blasting practices
  • Vibration control techniques
  • Modern explosive technologies
  • Electronic detonator systems
  • Advanced risk mitigation methods

Participants emphasized the need for precision, safety, and technological adoption to improve mining productivity and environmental compliance.

Closing Ceremony and Open Discussion

The closing ceremony featured senior officials and domain experts, including:

  • Mr. Nilendu Kumar Singh, CMD, CCL
  • Dr. S.S. Prasad, DDG SEZ
  • Prof. Jayantu, NIT Rourkela

Representatives from multiple companies shared experiences, raised queries, and offered suggestions to improve industry-wide standards.

Safety, Innovation and Women Empowerment Highlighted

Chief Guest Mr. Ujjwal Tah emphasized that “Monitoring in Blast” is vital for ensuring safety and enhancing production efficiency in mining. He also stressed women empowerment as an essential priority, noting that CCL and the coal industry have taken commendable steps to increase women’s participation. He added that continuous change and technological adoption are key drivers of progress in the mining sector.

CMD CCL on Strengthening India’s Mineral Sector

Addressing the gathering, Nilendu Kumar Singh, CMD, CCL, said, “Minerals play a vital role in India’s development, and handling them requires intelligence, strength, and patience. Coal India is committed to strengthening the nation’s mineral sector with these values.”

All presenters were honoured with mementos by the Chairman and Co-Chairman. DGMS, CCL, and other participating institutions played a crucial role in the successful conduct of the seminar. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Shankar Nagachari, Director (Planning and Projects).
