NHPC Celebrates 51st Raising Day and 50 Glorious Years of Nation-Building

NHPC Limited, a “Navratna” Public Sector Undertaking of the Government of India, celebrated its 51st Raising Day with grandeur and enthusiasm, marking the completion of 50 glorious years of dedicated service to the nation. The Golden Jubilee celebration was held at NHPC’s Corporate Office in Faridabad and simultaneously across all its regional offices, power stations, and project sites.
The Chief Guest of the ceremony, Manohar Lal, Union Minister of Power, Housing and Urban Affairs, released a Customized “My Stamp” on NHPC issued by India Post, Government of India, featuring 12 iconic NHPC dams and barrages that symbolize the company’s engineering excellence in hydropower generation. He also unveiled the “Achievement Book”, a richly illustrated publication chronicling NHPC’s 50-year journey of technological excellence, innovation, and contribution to nation-building.
The Chief Guest was joined on the dais by Sachin Kishore, Chief Postmaster General, Haryana Circle; Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC; Directors, CVO, and Independent Directors of the company. The event began with the traditional lighting of the ceremonial lamp, followed by the welcome address and cultural performances.
In his address, Manohar Lal congratulated NHPC for completing five decades of distinguished service, commending its pivotal role in ensuring India’s energy security through sustainable hydropower development. He emphasized NHPC’s vital role in supporting India’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2070, calling on the company to continue expanding its renewable energy portfolio and adopting innovative technologies.
Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary (Power), Government of India, also lauded NHPC’s remarkable journey, stating that the Government of India places immense trust in NHPC to lead the hydropower sector and contribute significantly to the nation’s vision of a “Developed India.”
In his remarks, Bhupender Gupta, CMD, NHPC, extended heartfelt gratitude to the Union Minister and the Ministry of Power for their continued guidance and support. He described the day as one of “immense pride, reflection, and inspiration,” highlighting NHPC’s transformation from its inception in 1975 to becoming India’s leading hydropower and green energy company.
To commemorate the occasion, Shripad Naik, Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, shared a video message, extending his greetings to the NHPC family. He praised NHPC’s 50-year journey as an inspiring story of dedication and excellence, reflecting its unwavering commitment to national progress.
The event was attended by senior officials from the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority, Central Electricity Regulatory Commission, CMDs and Directors of other PSUs, and a large gathering of NHPC officials, employees, and their families.
The celebrations featured award presentations recognizing excellence across various categories including Best Power Station, Best Construction Project, Exemplary Commitment, and NHPC Star Awards. Outstanding students of employees were also felicitated. Several departmental publications were released to mark the occasion.
The cultural evening added to the festivities with enthralling performances by renowned singer and composer Shri Anand Raj Anand and popular comedian Shri Sanket Bhosale, who captivated the audience with their musical and comic acts.
Earlier in the day, CMD Bhupender Gupta hoisted the NHPC flag at the Corporate Office. The gathering also commemorated 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, with a rendition of the national song and a live telecast of the Hon’ble Prime Minister’s address organized by the Ministry of Culture.
The 51st Raising Day thus marked a momentous milestone in NHPC’s legacy of harnessing hydropower and renewable energy for a greener, self-reliant India.
