NMDC Steel Limited Achieves Record-Breaking Operational Milestones in November 2025
The Raw Material Handling System registered historic highs with 616 wagons tippled in a single day on November 21, 2025—the highest ever for the plant

NMDC Steel Limited (NSL), India’s youngest integrated steel plant, has concluded November 2025 with a remarkable string of record operational achievements across its value chain. Demonstrating robust process stability, operational discipline, and steadily rising capacity utilization, the company delivered its best-ever monthly performance in multiple production segments.
RMHS Creates New Records
The Raw Material Handling System (RMHS) registered historic highs with 616 wagons tippled in a single day on November 21, 2025—the highest ever for the plant. NSL also achieved its record monthly Base Mix production of 5,18,886 tonnes, marking a significant enhancement in raw material preparedness.
Sinter Plant Exceeds Rated Capacity
The Sinter Plant continued its performance upswing, clocking a day-high production of 15,590 tonnes on November 30, 2025, and a record monthly output of 4,14,271 tonnes, operating at over 105% rated capacity utilization.
Blast Furnace Delivers Exceptional Hot Metal Output
NSL’s Blast Furnace demonstrated stellar efficiency with:
- Highest-ever daily Hot Metal production: 11,315 tonnes on November 28 (119% capacity utilization).
- Monthly Hot Metal production: 2,80,049 tonnes (101% capacity utilization).
Importantly, the plant achieved its lowest-ever monthly average fuel rate of 519 kg per tonne of Hot Metal, one of the best in the Indian steel industry, using only sinter and ore in burden. This was complemented by the highest monthly average PCI rate of 164 kg per tonne of Hot Metal.
Steel Melting Shop & Rolling Mills Shine
The Steel Melting Shop (SMS) and Thin Slab Caster–Hot Strip Mill units reported their best monthly results to date, achieving:
- HR Coil production: 2,03,356 tonnes
- Crude Steel production: 2,09,445 tonnes
- Liquid Steel production: 2,15,010 tonnes
These correspond to capacity utilizations of 84%, 85%, and 86%, respectively.
NSL also recorded its best-ever converter lining life: 4,799 heats.
Two new steel grades—IS 2062 E450BR and IS 2062 E350C—were successfully transitioned to commercial production, expanding NSL’s product portfolio for the construction, infrastructure, and heavy engineering sectors.
Cost Optimization & Technical Advancements
NSL enhanced its cost competitiveness through optimized operations at its Oxygen Plant, saving approximately ₹1.9 crore in power costs by operating in single-plant turndown mode.
The company also achieved key technical milestones with the successful completion of Performance Guarantee (PG) Tests for the Blast Furnace (Pkg. 05) and Turbo Blower (Pkg. 10A). Additionally, NSL secured BIS certifications for IS 2041:2024 and IS 2062 E450BR, strengthening its quality assurance framework.
