A delegation from Noida International Airport met Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday and presented the Aerodrome License issued by the Government of India. With this development, a major milestone has been achieved toward the operationalization of the airport located at Jewar. Following the issuance of the license, the process for the airport’s inauguration and the commencement of commercial flight operations will now move forward.

The delegation, led by Airport Chief Executive Officer Christoph Schnellmann, briefed the Chief Minister about the progress of the project and the upcoming stages of development. According to officials, after obtaining the Aerodrome License, the final phase of regulatory approvals is currently underway. The airport’s Aerodrome Security Program is presently under review with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security. Once the required security clearance is granted, the airport management will coordinate with all concerned agencies to finalize the date for the formal inauguration and the start of commercial operations.

The Noida International Airport, being developed in Jewar in Gautam Buddha Nagar, is a major greenfield airport project that will connect the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh with key cities across India and around the world. The airport is being developed with world-class facilities and is envisioned as a blend of Swiss efficiency and Indian hospitality. The airport’s Chief Executive Officer is Christoph Schnellmann.

The development of the airport is planned in four phases. In the first phase, one runway and one passenger terminal building have been constructed, with an annual capacity of approximately 12 million passengers. In the second phase, the capacity will be expanded to 30 million passengers. In the third and fourth phases, the airport will be further expanded to achieve a total capacity of 70 million passengers annually.

In the first phase, the passenger terminal building covers an area of approximately 138,000 square meters and includes 48 check-in counters, 9 security screening lanes, and 9 immigration counters. Domestic and international lounges are also being developed for passenger convenience. Additionally, the airport will have 10 aerobridges and 28 aircraft parking stands. The runway has been designed to handle around 30 flight operations per hour.

A modern cargo and logistics hub is also being developed within the airport premises. In the initial phase, the cargo handling capacity will be around 250,000 tonnes per year, which will be gradually expanded to 1.5 million tonnes annually.

Technologically, the airport will be equipped with advanced systems including DigiYatra-based biometric processing, self-baggage drop facilities, and digital passenger processing systems to ensure faster and smoother travel for passengers. With sustainability as a key focus, the airport is being developed with a net-zero emissions target. Facilities such as solar power generation, rainwater harvesting, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure are also being incorporated within the airport complex.

Experts believe that once operational, Noida International Airport will significantly reduce air traffic congestion in the Delhi-NCR region and create new opportunities for investment, tourism, and employment across western Uttar Pradesh.
