NPS Can Never Match OPS – AITUC Supports Stance Taken By AIDEF To Boycott NPS Committee

AITUC to continue the battle for restoration of Old Pension Scheme

From reliable sources, www.indianpsu.com has learnt that there was a two-hour meeting with the Finance Secretary and Staff Side leaders from Railways and other Departments. AIDEF has already informed the Defence Ministry that AIDEF has boycotted the meeting on the ground that for 20 years they are fighting for OPS and and they will continue to fight. It seems Finance Secretary has outright rejected for restoring OPS and proposed 40% Pension with Dearness Allowance. But he has not spelled out further details about after how many years of service employees will get 40% Pension, whether Voluntary Retirement Pension will be paid 40%, whether after every Pay Commission Pension will be revised ?? Like this many questions are being raised by the NPS Employees. The Finance Minister is expected to make some announcements in the Budget to claim as Modi 3.0 Govt achievements. Whether this will satisfy the Government NPS employees who are contributing 10% of their wages every month, whereas OPS employees don’t contribute anything for Pension.

The National Working Committee of AITUC which met at New Delhi on 15th & 16th July 24 unanimously adopted a Resolution supporting the stand taken by AIDEF to boycott NPS Committee stated that No improvement in NPS will match the benefits available in OPS. The AITUC Resolution is published below for the benefit of the viewers of www.indianpsu.com

AITUC supports the position taken by AIDEF to boycott the NPS Improvement Committee and to continue the battle for restoration of Old Pension Scheme. The National Working Committee Meeting of AITUC held at New Delhi on the 15-16th July, 2024, fully support and welcome the position taken by AIDEF to boycott the NPS improvement committee meeting chaired by the finance secretary government of India scheduled on the 15th July, 2024. The demand of AITUC and the entire Government Employees is to scrap NPS and restore the Old Pension Scheme to the Central Government and State Government Employees.

Hence, any improvement in the NPS is not going to match the old pension scheme which is basically non contributory. Government cannot discriminate its own employees in the matter of old age security and pension. Government employees cannot surrender their genuine and justified demand for restoration of the old pension scheme. Therefore, the considered stand taken by the AIDEF to boycott the NPS improvement committee chaired by the Finance Secretary is fully justified and AITUC welcomes and support the same. AITUC calls upon the Central Government, State Government employees and Teachers to continue their struggle to win over the right of Old Pension Scheme. AITUC will stand with the Government Employees shoulder to shoulder in their struggle to get the Old Pension Scheme restored.
