NTPC Bongaigaon Hosts Fly Ash Customer Meet 2025 to Promote Sustainable Construction and Public Health

NTPC Bongaigaon engages cement manufacturers, brick producers and ash-based industry stakeholders to promote sustainable fly ash utilisation, cleaner construction practices and improved public health outcomes

NTPC Bongaigaon successfully organised the Fly Ash Customer Meet – 2025 on 12 December 2025, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable operations and the promotion of environmentally responsible construction practices that support both ecological balance and public health.

The programme was attended by Arnab Maitra, Head of Project, NTPC Bongaigaon, Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), senior departmental officials, and a wide cross-section of stakeholders including cement manufacturers, fly ash brick units, traders and other ash-based product industries. Around 40 participants took part in the interactive meet.

Addressing the gathering, Arnab Maitra emphasised the significance of eco-friendly utilisation of fly ash in mitigating environmental and health challenges. Anurag Gupta highlighted the need for large-scale adoption of fly ash bricks, noting that replacing conventional red bricks helps conserve fertile topsoil and significantly reduces air pollution and carbon emissions generated by traditional brick kilns—thereby supporting improved public health outcomes.

A detailed technical presentation by B. N. Baruri from the Ash Utilisation Department showcased innovative, sustainable and compliant avenues for fly ash utilisation. This was followed by an industry presentation from Zerund Manufacturing Company, one of NTPC Bongaigaon’s key fly ash users. The company demonstrated a range of ash-based products, including fly ash bricks, AAC blocks and paver blocks, highlighting technological advancements and the potential for substantial CO₂ emission reduction through wider adoption of these materials.

An interactive session facilitated constructive discussions on operational and logistical aspects, including rail loading facilities, long-term MoUs with cement manufacturers, and pricing considerations. Maitra and the NTPC team assured participants that each issue would be examined in detail, reiterating NTPC Bongaigaon’s collaborative approach to strengthening the ash utilisation ecosystem.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Tapas Barman, DGM (Ash Utilisation Department), who expressed heartfelt appreciation to all participants for their inputs and continued partnership.

With such stakeholder engagements, NTPC Bongaigaon continues to advance sustainable ash management practices, contributing to cleaner construction, healthier living environments, and India’s broader climate-responsive development goals.
