NTPC Bongaigaon Concludes IRSM (ER-II) with Enthralling Volleyball and Women’s Badminton Finals

NTPC Limited’s Bongaigaon unit successfully concluded the four-day Intra Regional Sports Meet (IRSM) of Eastern Region-II for Volleyball and Women’s Badminton at the Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Stadium, showcasing a vibrant spirit of sportsmanship, camaraderie and teamwork.
The event was inaugurated by Arnab Maitra, Business Unit Head, NTPC Bongaigaon, in the presence of senior officials including Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), Shri Amit Kumar Asthana, Head of HR, and L. N. Meitei, Commandant, CISF, along with employees and stakeholders.
Five teams participated in the tournament, representing NTPC Bongaigaon (Assam), Darlipali, Talcher Thermal and Talcher Kaniha (Odisha), and North Karanpura (Jharkhand). Addressing the gathering, Shri Maitra emphasized that IRSM serves as a vital platform to strengthen teamwork, promote unity, and foster holistic development among employees.
The inaugural ceremony featured an impressive march past, ceremonial torch-lighting by team captains, and the unveiling of the mascot “Puhor”, symbolising light and inspired by Assam’s iconic one-horned rhinoceros. The tournament trophy was also unveiled, followed by the administration of Fair Play and Fitness Pledges.

- Runner-up: Ms. Cheme Serdeon (NTPC Bongaigaon)
- Doubles Winners: Ms. Sharmistha Gohain & Ms. Amrita Rai (NTPC Bongaigaon)
- Runners-up: Dr. Hyra Deepthi Sindhuja & Ms. Pragnya P. Das (Talcher Thermal)
Talcher Thermal clinched the overall team championship, while NTPC Bongaigaon finished as runner-up. The Fair Play Trophy was awarded to Team Darlipali.

The Fair Play Trophy in Volleyball was awarded to Team North Karanpura.
The closing ceremony was graced by Shri Anurag Gupta, GM (O&M), who congratulated all participants for their spirited performances and appreciated the discipline and enthusiasm displayed throughout the tournament. He highlighted the importance of such sporting events in promoting teamwork, fitness, and a healthy work culture, and commended the organising team for the successful execution of the event.
