NTPC CMD Gurdeep Singh Honoured with Individual Leadership Excellence Award at SCOPE Eminence Awards

Gurdeep Singh, Chairman & Managing Director of NTPC Limited, was conferred the Individual Leadership Excellence Award (Maharatna & Navratna PSEs) by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at the SCOPE Eminence Awards held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

A veteran of the power sector with more than three decades of experience, he has been leading NTPC as CMD since 2016. Prior to this, he served as Managing Director of Gujarat State Electricity Company Limited. He began his professional journey in 1987 as an Engineer Trainee with NTPC and has held leadership positions across public, private, and multinational organizations.

An alumnus of NIT Kurukshetra (Mechanical Engineering), he has pursued advanced management and leadership programs at globally renowned institutions including IIM Ahmedabad, Oxford’s Saïd Business School, Harvard Kennedy School, Darden School of Business (Virginia), Singapore Civil Services College, and ISB Hyderabad.

He is also a member of the IEA’s High-Level Advisory Group on Coal in the Global Net Zero Transition and the Clean Energy Ministerial H2I Advisory Group, besides serving as Co-Chair of the Taskforce on Energy and Resource Efficiency at B20 Italy 2021.

Under his stewardship, NTPC has accelerated its transformation from a coal-based power generator to a sustainable integrated power company, with significant initiatives in renewables, green hydrogen, biomass, waste-to-energy, CCU, acquisitions, and global expansion. His strategic focus on low-cost, low-emission solutions, coal rationalization, and sustainable operations has not only enhanced NTPC’s competitive edge but also aligned it with India’s clean energy vision.

Currently, Gurdeep Singh also serves as Chairman & Managing Director of NTPC Green Energy Limited and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), and as Chairman of Ayana Renewable Power Private Limited.

The SCOPE Eminence Awards, hosted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) with support from the Department of Public Enterprises (DPE), recognize the exceptional contributions of Public Sector Enterprises in nation-building. The awards ceremony was graced by Hon’ble President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, Minister of State for Finance Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, and Secretary, DPE, Shri K. Moses Chalai.
